Hesburgh Libraries, University of Notre Dame
The Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame seek an innovative and user-focused librarian to lead its new Resource Access & Delivery Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Resource Access & Delivery Department Head will have the opportunity to lead the implementation of a merger of two departments: Access Services and Resource Delivery, thus facilitating access to the collections and services of a complex, multi-faceted academic library. As a manager, s/he will lead the new Department within the overall vision and priorities of the library and the mission of the University. S/he will work among departments and divisions throughout the library and provide leadership for issues concerning circulation, reserves, stacks management, interlibrary loan, and document delivery. S/he will develop, cross-train, coach, and evaluate the staff of a total of six service units: circulation, reserves, stacks management, interlibrary loan, document delivery, and the Kellogg/Kroc Information Center (KKIC). There are currently 23 staff plus student assistants.
To complement the Libraries’ collection development activities, s/he will meet information needs by arranging for the delivery of materials on request and by enabling and promoting the cooperative exchange of resources between Notre Dame and other partners. S/he will plan and provide effective and innovative services, both physical and virtual, and incorporate emerging technologies in the provision, marketing, and assessment of those services. S/he will oversee the Libraries’ compliance with copyright law affecting reserves, interlibrary loan, and document delivery. Over the next few years, s/he will participate in planning for a building renovation and the associated design and transition of services, in coordination with other library departments, teams or committees.
As a member of the library faculty, s/he is expected to serve the University and the libraries on various committees and teams, contribute to the profession, and engage in professional development. S/he will be a member of the Library Administrators & Managers Group, the User Services Department Heads, and the Circulation Working Group; s/he reports to the Associate Director for User Services.

Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to serve effectively as a member of a diverse team and to create a positive work environment during times of change.
