Position: The University Libraries is seeking nominations and applications for an Associate Director for User Services, University Libraries, University of Notre Dame
Responsibilities: The person we seek will have the opportunity to lead a dynamic program of user-centered services that are highly regarded on campus. Working closely with others in the library, on campus and in other libraries, this individual will ensure that our services keep pace with the evolving needs of multiple and diverse constituencies. Creating a clear sense of purpose, mission and a focus on key results, this individual will help us recognize opportunities to enhance our support for teaching and research through productive collaborations, inspired innovations in and timely assessments of policies and services.
As the leader of the User Services Division, this individual will engage members of the Division in planning and shaping services and collections, and in managing their resources; foster the continuing renewal of library faculty and staff knowledge; and ensure clear communication. The User Services Division includes several Hesburgh Library departments responsible for research, instructional, access, and resource delivery services, and most of the branch libraries.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Associate Director participates in setting library directions, developing the budget and participating in development activities. This individual provides library-wide leadership in the areas of user services, scholarly communication, strategic planning, and the future renovations of the Hesburgh Library. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Libraries and works closely with the other senior leaders who have leadership responsibilities for resources and collection services; information systems and digital access, financial and administrative services, and organizational development.
As a member of the Library Faculty, the individual is expected to serve the University, contribute to the profession and engage in professional development.
Qualifications: Graduate library degree from an ALA accredited program or its equivalent; a record of sustained, successful experience in a user services environment and 5 years of successful administrative experience; superior abilities in communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent skills in connecting staff and colleagues with needed resources and in establishing rapport with diverse constituencies; a deep knowledge of the diversity of user needs, trends in delivering library services in research libraries and scholarly communication issues; and ability to contribute to the profession.
Salary and benefits: Salary and rank offered commensurate with experience and qualifications (minimum salary of $95,000). Librarians are non-tenure track members of the faculty and earn 20 days vacation annually plus University holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The University offers an excellent benefits package.
