Collection Development Committee Charge

COMPOSITION:
The Collection Development Committee will be composed of: the Associate Director for Resources and Collection Services Division the head of acquisitions; the coordinator for electronic resources; the head of serials acquisitions; the head of the Collection Development Department; one subject librarian from the humanities; one from the social sciences; and one from engineering/science. One of the three subject librarians must be from the Reference Department. All members will be appointed by the director of libraries on the recommendation of the Associate Director for Resources and Collection Services Division and Head of the Collection Development Department for terms of two (2) years beginning July 1, and may serve for no more than two consecutive terms. The terms will be staggered. The head of the Collection Development Department will serve as chairperson.
CHARGE:
The Collection Development Committee advises the Associate Director of the Resources and Collection Services Division (RCSD) on collection issues and the Library Executive Committee on overall strategic priorities for collections, including recommending collection-funding initiatives. The Committee will monitor and anticipate trends that affect collections, reporting on these to the library. The Committee will support and facilitate cooperative collection development initiatives. Collections policies and procedures will be established and reviewed, in collaboration with the Associate Director and collection managers, by the Committee.
The librarians representing the three general subject areas are responsible for sharing information with those collection managers in their respective areas and representing their interests and views at CDC meetings.
