Collection Development Policy
Political Science

PROGRAMS AND CLIENTELE SUPPORTED:

The department of government. In this department the main topics of specialization are political theory, American government, comparative government studies, and international studies. As far as research interests in the United States government are concerned, the department has traditionally emphasized the executive and the constitution. There is also an interest in minority and urban groups in United States politics, but it is not as major as the two above. Concerning comparative government studies, the countries most studied are Great Britain, France, and Germany. Research on international studies concerns mainly United States foreign policy, Latin American Studies (see Latin American Studies collection development policy), and Central- Eastern European Studies. There is also some interest in the Middle-East, East Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The creation of the Institute for International Peace Studies has created the need for collection development in areas such as human rights, terrorism, and international organizations.
