Notre Dame has been a depository for U.S. Government publications since 1883. The Government Documents Technical Services unit is a part of Documents Access & Database Management department in the Information Systems and Digital Access Division.
Presently, the collections are located on the first floor and the Lower
Level of the Hesburgh Library. The unit provides bibliographic access
for materials in book, map, microfiche and CD-ROM formats.
Over 200,000 government publications have been received since January
1, 1968. This figure does not include the European Union publications
cataloged in the main library under Library of Congress classification.
Government material is arranged by Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc)
classification system covering a broad spectrum of subjects. Technology
has made it possible to access the Internet for government information
at the local, state, federal, international and global levels.
