DAIAD
This is the home page of the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department (DAIAD). The Department is comprised of four people:

Our purpose is to facilitate scholarshop, teaching, and learning in a digital enviroment by providing digital library services and collectons. To these ends we strive to: 1) implement digital library services and collections, 2) maintain existing digital library services and collections, 3) enhance our skills as information professionals, 4) participate in applied research & development activities, and 5) be good communicators. "We help the Libraries do stuff digital."
Reports, projects, and activities
Below is a list of some of the more significant reports, projects, and activities the Department has been involved in. They are listed in reverse-chronological order:
- Institutional Digital Repository Phase I Final Report - This a final report describing the activities surrounding Phase I of a one-year pilot project called the University of Notre Dame Institutional Digital Repository. After outlining the goals and methods of the project, the report enumerates ways the project could be continued. (2006-12-18)
- 2005-2006 Annual Report - This text first summarizes the major developments of the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department (DAIAD) from July 2005 through June 2006. (2006-07-26)
- 2004-2005 Annual Report - This text first summarizes the major developments of the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department (DAIAD) from July 2004 to June 2005. (2005-07-01)
- MyLibrary - Rooted in Dublin Core and supplemented with facet/term combinations, MyLibrary is a set of object-oriented Perl modules used to implement digital library services and collections. (2005-04-11)
- Virtual New Bookshelf - By selecting things such as locations, subjects, and languages, this system returns to the user a list of newly acquired materials from the University Libraries. (2004-11-17)
- 2003-2004 Annual Report - In summary, the first half of the year the Department facilitated many digital library activities such as the Virtual New Bookshelf, Electronic Theses and Dissertations, intranet server, syndicating content to the campus-wide portal, and participating in the sponsored NSF grant called OCKHAM. The second half of the year was consumed with activities surrounding the redesign of the Libraries' external website. (2004-07-23)
- Website Strategic Plan - This is a strategic planning document. It outlines the why’s and wherefores of the University Libraries Of Notre Dame Web presence. It answers questions like “What is the purpose of the website, and how does it fit within the totality of the Libraries services and collections?”, “Who are the website’s primary audiences and what do they need, want, and desire?”, and “What does the website contain?” It also outlines a number of implementation issues. - Website Survey Results report - This text summarizes a survey used to gather input about the University Libraries of Notre Dame Website as it existed in the Fall of 2003. (2004-01-23)
- Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) - Using Virginia Tech's ETD-db software, this is a system for collecting, organizing, and disseminating theses and dissertations from the University. A draft policy/procedure manual is also available. (2003-08-18)
- 2002-2003 Annual Report - This text first summarizes the activities of the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department (DAIAD) from July 2002 to July 2003. (2003-07-15)
- Focus Group Interviews - This text reports on a set of focus group interviews facilitated by the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department at the University Libraries of Notre Dame. The intent of the interviews was to determine what problems students, faculty, and staff of the University have accessing digital information. The Department conducted the interviews to help it prioritize its activities in order to provide enhanced digital library services and collections. (2002-07-31)
- 2001-2002 Annual Report - DAIAD spent its first few months doing an informal but extensive needs assessment in the Libraries to determine what sorts of digital services are needed. (2002-07-03)
