Matthew Alan King was born to Mary M. Hendriksen and Dwight B. King Jr. on April 7, 1987 in the city of Mishawaka, Indiana. Matthew constantly cried as a baby. The crying did not stop. He cried so much that his father feared that the other boys at school would tease him.
Matthew grew up with his older sister, Elise, and younger brother, Gabe. He and Gabe did everything together. Lego's and Playmobile were the source of their enjoyment. Then, when Matthew was at the age of ten, his family was blessed with a new member, Madeline.
Ever since he was little, Matthew has always been very athletic. He played tennis, soccer, and football at a young age. He even did ice skating and dance which, along with the crying, did not help his reputation. In high school, he played on the varsity soccer team all four years winning a sectional championship in his senior year. Matthew's second sport was basketball. He played basketball on both the junior varsity and varsity level winning a sectional championship in his junior year.
Matthew attended Madison Elementary School, Clay Middle School, and Clay High School. He finished third in his class at Clay High School and will continue his education at Washington University in St. Louis this coming fall of 2006. Although he is unsure of what he wants to study, Matthew has strong interests in English and history.
While school was out in the summer, Matthew had a number of jobs. Many of these jobs were lawn jobs until he was employed by Notre Dame. He has worked at two different libraries on the campus. The Kresge Law Library where his father, Dwight, works and the Hesburgh Library of Notre Dame. |
