Project to Recruit the Next Generation of Librarians

IMLS Award Grant 2004

The library profession seeks new recruits, especially people who reflect the communities they serve. Toward that end, five area academic libraries have designed a program to attract diverse high school students to the challenging and rewarding profession of academic librarianship. Funding from a three-year $194,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services will enable local academic libraries to offer, every summer, 14 college-bound seniors an opportunity to work for eight weeks at one of five participating libraries.  The Project to Recruit advances the Summer Program which served as a diversity initiative for 3 years.
