Summer Program
The
objective of this diversity initiative is to provide selected high school
students with a preview of librarianship and an understanding of the many
different functions and departments of an academic library through summer
employment as student assistants.
After a lengthy interview process, five students were selected from different high schools. Each student worked in a couple of the following departments: DCNS (Desktop Computing and Network Services), CADM (Catalog and Database Maintenance), Government Documents Technical Services, Reference, Current Periodicals/ Microtext and Preservation. They also worked in the Kresge Law Library. In addition to the work experience, weekly programming was scheduled for the students throughout the summer.
