Document Delivery Service
Our Service
Delivery of books from the Hesburgh Libraries to Notre Dame Faculty, Graduate Students, and Staff to designated delivery locations. We are not able to deliver materials that are non-paper formats (videocassette, CDs, etc.), in non-circulating collections, and Reserve items.
Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students may also request photocopies of articles.
How to Request Document Delivery?
- From the Library Home Page
Once you locate an item on the library home page (a book from the catalog or a journal article in an index), click on the “FindIt” icon; then click on the “Deliver it to me” link.
- From the ILL/Document Delivery Request Form
Log onto Interlibrary loan and document delivery site with your NetID and password. The first two forms are “Document Delivery Article” and “Document Delivery Book.” Select the appropriate form, fill out the necessary information, and submit.
Where will the material be delivered?
Books are sent to the delivery location you select on your ILL Patron Information form. (Main Library or Branch Library)
** Therefore, you must select a “Delivery Location” in the “Change User Information” section of your ILL account. **
Arts & Letters Faculty and Staff: Your books are sent to your departmental office.
Graduate Students: Your books will be available for pickup and checkout on the holding shelves just outside the Circulation area.
Articles are delivered via the web unless you indicate a preference for paper copies; paper copies are sent to your departmental office or branch library.
If you have any questions, contact the Document Delivery Supervisor at 631-5758 or email kferry@nd.edu.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I order a large number of items at once, will I receive them all the next day?
Our goal is to deliver all requests placed Monday through Friday by the next business day; however, we may not be able to fill all requests within a day if traffic is exceptionally busy.
What happens if an item I request is not on the shelf?
If an item is not found on the shelf, we will request it for you via Interlibrary Loan. If you need the item long-term, you can place a recall or request a search for the item.
What do I do if I enter my Net ID and access is denied?
If access is denied, contact the Document Delivery Department Supervisor at 631-5758 or email kferry@nd.edu; you can also contact Technical Support at 631-8291 or email dwillia6@nd.edu..
If I have a research assistant, can I authorize him or her to use the document delivery service?
Yes. Faculty can authorize a research assistant to order both Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery materials for him or her.
Faculty should first obtain a proxy card from the Hesburgh Library circulation desk; send an email to the Document Delivery Supervisor at kferry@nd.edu, including the name of the person you wish to authorize as your proxy. A special proxy account will then be created granting them access to both ILL and Document Delivery forms.
