Acceptable Use Policy
German language and literature are represented in the University Libraries of Notre Dame by books, serials, microforms, audio-visual materials and electronic resources. The focus of collecting is the literature of German-speaking Europe, its history and criticism, and resources focusing on the German language. The E. H. and Suzanne Arnold Family Endowment for Germanic Studies and The Merrill B. Frick Family Endowment for German Studies generously provide supplemental support for the development of these collections.

Access to these resources is governed by license agreements which restrict use to the Notre Dame community and to individuals who use the Notre Dame Libraries' facilities. It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that he or she uses these products only for individual, noncommercial use without systematically downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information. Acceptable use forbids downloading contents of entire issues of a given journal title. The use of software such as scripts, agents, or robots, is generally prohibited and may result in loss of access to these resources for the entire Notre Dame community.

The BDSL provides free access to citations from 1985 to ten years prior to the current reporting year. On the average, 15,000 entries are annually added from monographs, omnibus volumes, journals, newspapers and reviews of primary literature. For current citations, consult the paper holdings in Hesburgh Library at PT 85 .B53.

Provides information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses, with subject, title, and author access to almost all American dissertations accepted at an accredited institution since 1861. Dissertations from all institutions since 1997 have 24-page previews freely available without restriction. Masters theses selectively indexed since 1962. Includes citations for thousands of Canadian dissertations and an increasing number of papers accepted in institutions abroad. Professional (e.g., M.D., LL.D.) and honorary degrees not included. Indexes essays and articles contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Areas covered include the humanities and social sciences, with subject coverage ranging from economics, political science, and history to criticism of literary works, drama, and film. Usage info: Licensed for one simultaneous user.
1967-
Indexes articles, notes, and similar literature on medieval subjects in journals, Festschriften, conference proceedings, and collected essays. Covers all aspects of medieval studies within the date range of 400 to 1500 for the entire continent of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa for the period before the Muslim conquest and parts of those areas subsequently controlled by Christian powers. The MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles on the Modern Languages and Literatures provides citations of journal articles, books, and dissertations published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. Coverage is international and subjects include literature, language and linguistics, literary theory, dramatic arts, folklore, and film since 1926.
