Access to these resources is governed by license agreements which restrict use to the Notre Dame community and to individuals who use the Notre Dame Libraries' facilities. It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that he or she uses these products only for individual, noncommercial use without systematically downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information. Acceptable use forbids downloading contents of entire issues of a given journal title. 2001 Statistical Abstract of the United States

Released on January 22, 2002 by the U.S. Census Bureau, this report is over 1,300 pages in length and contains statistical data including population, vital statistics, education, elections, energy, transportation, health, and nutrition, etc. Must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.

American National Election Study

Coverage:
1948-Current
A national surveys of the American electorate in presidential and midterm election years. Each election study addresses a wide range of substantive themes including: expectations about the election outcome; perceptions and evaluations of the major parties and their candidates; interest in the campaign; information about politics; partisanship; assessments of the relative importance of major problems facing the country; attention to campaign coverage in the mass media; feelings of political efficacy; political values; conservatism vs. liberalism; trust in government; political participation; vote choice; economic well- being; positions on social welfare, economic, social, and civil rights issues; evaluations of a wide range of political figures and groups; detailed demographic information; and measures of religious affiliation and religiosity.
American Religion Data Archive (ARDA)

Preserves quantitative data on American religion; includes data on churches and church membership, religious professionals, and religious groups.
Current Population Survey (CPS)

Coverage:
Varying coverage from 1994 - One Year Lag
A monthly survey of about 50,000 households. Estimates include employment, unemployment, earnings, hours of work, and other indicators. They are available by a variety of demographic characteristics including age, sex, race, marital status, and educational attainment.
General Social Survey (GSS)

Coverage:
1972-2000
The General Social Survey is an almost annual, "omnibus," personal interview survey of U.S. households. The first survey took place in 1972 and since then more than 38,000 respondents have answered over 3,260 different questions.
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), established in 1962, is an integral part of the infrastructure of social science research. ICPSR maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction, and offers training in quantitative methods to facilitate effective data use. To ensure that data resources are available to future generations of scholars, ICPSR preserves data, migrating them to new storage media as changes in technology warrant. In addition, ICPSR provides user support to assist researchers in identifying relevant data for analysis and in conducting their research projects.
