The first OCLC Connexion Client training session will include an overview,
initial client setup, searching and moving around the bibliographic file,
and updating and exporting bibliographic records. All attendees should
have gone through the first two sections of the online tutorial provided
by OCLC before attending the training session. Instructions for accessing
the tutorial follow. You don’t have to do this all in one sitting.
You can always exit the tutorial and come back and finish it at a later
time, at your own pace. Once you’ve attended the training session,
you will receive instructions for downloading the Connexion client and
doing initial setup on your machine.
1. Open up a browser session using Internet Explorer (the tutorial will
not work with Netscape). You may have an icon for IE on your desktop or
you may have to access it via Start/Programs. If you experience a slow
response time as you move through the tutorial, you may want to close
any unnecessary applications you have open.
2. Go to: http://www.oclc.org/support/training/connexion/client/tutorial/default.htm
and you’ll see the various sections of the Connexion client tutorial.
Before attending the first training session, you should view the first
two sections, Overview and Searching WorldCat.
3. To view the Overview, click on its View the tutorial link. You need
to have pop-up blockers disabled to view the tutorials. If your browser
settings are correct, the tutorial will start. If you get a message that
a pop-up is blocked, click where instructed to do so and select the option
“Always allow pop-ups from this site.” Select Yes when prompted
“Would you like to allow pop-ups from www5.oclc.org?” This
will ensure that you’ll be able to use the tutorials in future without
any problems. The navigation buttons for moving through the tutorial (to
the Contents Page, Previous Page, Next Page and to Exit) are in the upper
right corner of the screen. Click the Next Page button (arrow pointing
right) to move to the next page and follow the instructions (usually in
dark red) for moving to the next section as you go. If a particular screen
has no explicit instructions for continuing, just click that Next Page
button when you’re ready to move on.
4. When you’ve completed the Overview, select the X to exit and
use the Back button to get back to the page where you can select the second
section of the tutorial, Seaching WorldCat. Or come back to that page
at another time. You can always exit the tutorials at any time and return
later.
