In medieval churches and monasteries readings from the Apocalypse were associated with Eastertide. For convenience, this text was frequently bound separately, to distinguish it from the contents of the other main codices of liturgical readings, such as the Evangeliaries and Epistolaries. The Trier Apocalypse was used for such public liturgical reading.
