The Lorsch RotulusLorsch, third quarter of the ninth century, and Frankfurt, early eleventh centuryCarolingian minuscule
Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek, Frankfurt am Main (Germany)
Date of Publication of the Facsimile: 1994 Note how the idea of "splicing" already existed! At a later time, other texts were added on the empty space at the back of the roll, such as a votive Mass for the sick and other prayers. By far the most interesing addition, however, is a list of the contents of the treasury of the Salvatorstift in Frankfurt (ecclesiae ad Frankovurt ) at the end of the tenth century, including a listing of the books kept there (this is recorded in the larger, darker script). This inventory is followed by the beginning of a Play of the Three Kings, with neumes.
