The Commercial Bindery Preparations Unit (BPU) coordinates and oversees
all commercial binding activities for the University Libraries. The Unit
also directly prepares, ships, receives, and performs quality control
for all Hesburgh Library serial and monographic volumes commercialy bound
or rebound.
Commercial library binding is utilized to bind together and preserve loose
issues of journals which will be retained in print by the University Libraries.
Library binding is also utilized, selectively, for the binding of new
paperback aquisitions and the rebinding of damaged volumes from our collections.
Heckman Bindery is our vendor
for library binding.
Located in room 235A Hesburgh Library, the Commercial Bindery Prep Unit
is directed by Julie Arnott and supported by two staff; Debbie Huyvaert, Kathy Colbert; as well as a part time student assistant. Unit
staff are also responsibile for coordinating Shelf
Preparation and Mass Deacidification
activities for the University Libraries.
