Shelf Preparation

The Shelf Preparation Unit prepares library materials for shelving by creating and adhering call number labels, applying property stamps, and inserting security strips into each volume. These actions not only help to insure that library materials are readily shelvable and retrievable, but also provide for their security and long-term accessibility.

Shelf preparation activities are carried out in 121 Hesburgh Library, adjacent to the Cataloging Department. Activities are coordinated by Kathy Colbert a nd approximately 1.5 FTE student assistants. Please feel free to contact Debbie with any special labeling needs.

Library staff, please note the Libraries' Barcode Placement Guidelines.
