Spanish & Spanish Colonial Manuscripts

page of the Liber Amicorum

An excerpt from a royal ledger
kept in the port city of Arica in the Viceroyalty of Peru from 1651-52, recording a shipment of silver bars and coinage from the mint at Potosì to Lima on the galleon Santiago.

The library of José Durand, acquired in 1995, includes more than 40 literary, historical, financial and ecclesiastical manuscript items from the Spanish colonies (mainly Peru) in the New World. An online exhibit highlighting various aspects of the collection is now available.

In addition, a few manuscript documents in the Inquisition Collection relate to Inquisitorial activities in the Spanish Americas.
