The Lambeth Apocalypse, Manuscript 209 in Lambeth Palace Library: A Critical Study.
London: Harvey Miller Publishers, 1990.
Lambeth, Palace Library 209 (probably composed between 1260 and 1280), is a richly-illustrated text of the Book of Revelation with a detailed commentary on the allegory, emphasizing the figuration of the Church and the individual through the visions of St. John. There are only about twenty such known thirteenth-century illustrated Apocalypse manuscripts in England. The companion volume to this facsimile has a long essay on the manuscript's paleography by Michelle Brown and a foreword by the Archbishop of Canterbury; the textual commentary includes a transcription and translation of the text and commentary.
