Troubleshooting Tips

Browser import/export Issues:

Under certain circumstances, Direct Export windows do not always open. Try the following steps:

1) Turn off popup blockers in your web browser. RefWorks will not work when popup blockers are enabled.

If Direct Export windows still do not work, clear your cache and cookies:

1) In Microsoft Internet Explorer, clear your internet cache by selecting Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files... . Occasionally it is also good to clear your browser's History which can be found directly under the Temporary Internet Files entry.
2) Select the Delete Cookies button in the Internet Options panel.
3) Close all internet browser windows.
4) Re-open a single browser window and perform the Direct Export again. This should open RefWorks in a new browser window and the export should work properly.

In Firefox, to clear your internet cache select Tools > Options > Privacy > Cache > Clear .

In Netscape or SeaMonkey, to clear you internet cache select Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Clear Cache

Internet Explorer 7

Please be advised that Internet Explorer 7 users may experience extreme slowness when using RefWorks. This is due to IE's Phishing Filter (a new feature to IE7) that evaluates web page contents.

Microsoft has a downloadable patch that can rectify this. You can download the patch here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928089

Microsoft Vista

RefWorks does not work with Microsoft Vista at this time.
