The Reserve Collection, located at the Circulation/Reserve Desk and online, changes each semester. It includes library owned books, professors' personal copies of books, articles, chapters, papers (reprints), videos, cassettes and other multimedia. Faculty needing to place materials on reserve should consult the Course Reserves for Instructor Services webpage. Please contact the Hesburgh Library Circulation/Reserve Desk, or your branch library for assistance.
The majority of the collection is available 24/7 online. Physical print and media reserve items are kept within closed stacks at the following locations:
Music and Media reserve items are located at the Music and Media Services Desk in room 203 of the Hesburgh Library (f.k.a. Audiovisual Department) (map).
Print items are located at the Circulation/Reserve Desk (map) and with branch libraries within some colleges (ex. College of Science) on campus (map).
Patrons are limited to three (3) physical reserve items out at a time. Reserve items normally circulate for two (2) hours and may be checked out overnight no earlier than one hour before closing (Library Hours). Instructors have the discretion to extend the loan period or deny overnight checkouts. Reserve items that are checked out overnight are due the following day at 8:00am for Monday-Friday and at 12:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Instructors may give a student permission to check out a reserve item longer than the original circulation period. If the instructor wants to change the circulation period of an item they have placed on reserve, they must contact the Circulation/Reserve Desk in advance of checkout to either take the item off reserve or notify staff how long the item may be checked out. Failing to notify the desk in advance will result in overdue fees for the patron.
You should search for the book, reprint, test, video, or DVD on the course homepage accessible via Reserves link https://www.library.nd.edu/reserves/ereserves/. Record the call number and present this information, along with a valid ID, to the Circulation/Reserve Desk (for print) or Music and Media Desk (for media).
Reserve materials may not be held for users. Circulation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The fine on an overdue reserve item is $3.00 per day, and will not exceed the cost of replacing the item.
