Documents in Notre Dame's Online Reserve System are limited to students enrolled in the course for which the reserve reading is mounted and are for the non-commercial, educational use of students.
Material in the Online Reserve System (exams, lecture notes, articles, book chapters) will only be accessed by course name or professor name in the public access database.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproduction of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research. If electronic transmission of reserve material is used for purposes in excess of what constitutes "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
Appropriate citations or attributions to their sources will be included for all electronic files.
At the end of each semester all material in the Online Reserve System will be suppressed from the public access database.
The Library will pay any "reasonable" fees charged by the publisher. If permission is denied by a copyright holder or if the fees are considered unreasonable, the material will be taken off reserve and either discarded or returned to the instructor who brought it in.

Government publications
One chapter from a book
One article from a journal issue
Copyright Permission will be sought for Online Reserves:
When multiple articles from one journal issue are needed for online reserve
When one chapter of a book is needed by a professor for more than one semester
When multiple chapters of a book are needed for online reserve
The Library reserves the right to refuse to post material based on royalty fees or copyright constraints
