NOMAD Wireless Setup

In order to connect to NOMAD, you will need the following:

  • A computer equipped with an 802.11b wireless network card
  • To be within a NOMAD “zone”

Next, you’ll need to register your wireless network card in order to be able to access the Internet.

  1. From within a NOMAD zone and with your wireless network card properly installed, turn on your computer and let it start up completely.
  2. Open a web browser, and you should be automatically redirected to the OIT’s Network Connection Registration page. If not, please go to: http://ncr.nd.edu
  3. Scroll down the page, and select the radio button for Register Your Computer. Enter your NetID and password when prompted.
  4. Read the Responsible Use Policy and click the Accept button at the bottom of the page.
  5. On the next page, enter a unique name for a Host Name. From the pull-down list, select a domain that most closely reflects your location or department. For example, someone living in a residence hall would select resnet.nd.edu.
  6. Click the Register button at the bottom of the page. Mac Users: Be sure to follow any additional on-screen instructions.
  7. When you receive the successful registration page, you are done. Close your browser, and then restart your computer (on Windows, go to Start > Shutdown > Restart; on Mac OS 9, go to Special > Restart; on Mac OS X, go to the Apple menu > Restart). You should now be able to reach any web site on the Internet.
