Acceptable Use Policy

Library resources for the study of French literature reflect the entire Francophone world, which includes Canada, some twenty African countries, and other parts of the world as well as France. Resources include primary texts of fiction, poetry, drama, and selected prose by both canonical and minor authors as well as historical, critical, and biographical works of secondary literature. They range chronologically from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century and formats include books, periodicals, videos and recordings, microfilm, and electronic resources. Printed books and serials can be found in the Library of Congress classification range, PQ 1 to PQ 3999, with generic studies in PN. Acquisitions in this field are generously supported by The Dorothy G. Griffin Endowed Collection in French Poetry and The John Hrycko Family Endowed Collection in French Studies.

Access to these resources is governed by license agreements which restrict use to the Notre Dame community and to individuals who use the Notre Dame Libraries' facilities. Acceptable use forbids downloading contents of entire issues of a given journal title. Provides full-text of classical French writings, including literary works, political tracts, philosophical writings, and technical treatises.

An annual bibliography that indexes books, periodicals, and theses.
Dictionnaire des synonymes

This French dictionary, sponsored by Universite de Caen, contains about 49,000 entries drawn from seven published dictionaries.

Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance

Contains electronic resources for researchers in the study and teaching of the Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700). Enables users to access citations in journal, book, and reviews databases; provides online access to Paul Oskar Kristeller's Iter Italicum (a finding list of Renaissance humanistic manuscripts); provides access to the International directory of scholars (a comprehensive directory of contact information, and information on the research and teaching careers of scholars around the world).

A full-text searchable database of articles and primary source materials on individual critics and theorists and critical and theoretical schools and movements.
Literature resource center

Provides biographical, bibliographical, and critical content on literary figures from all time periods; draws on Gale Group's Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, and Dictionary of Literary Biography; selected full text from Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Literature Criticism from 1400 to 1800, Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism; includes full text of numerous literary journals and periodicals.

The MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles on the Modern Languages and Literatures provides citations of journal articles, books, and dissertations published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics.
