Acceptable Use Policy

The Italian Literature collection consists of books, serials, microforms, audio-visual materials and electronic resources and includes literature, film, criticism, and literary history. The collection includes both canonical and minor authors of Italian literature from the thirteenth century to the present, with particular emphasis on the medieval and Renaissance periods and especially Dante Alighieri. Support for the collection is provided by the Valenti Family Endowment in Italian Studies, the Antonio and Suzanne Rea Family Endowment in Italian Studies, the Guido Family Collection in Italian Studies, and the John J. Nate Family Collection in Italian Studies.

Access to these resources is governed by license agreements which restrict use to the Notre Dame community and to individuals who use the Notre Dame Libraries' facilities. Searchable database of the works of 112 authors from Petrarch to Marino. Includes collections of 13th century rhyme and a representative collection of poets from the 13-14th centuries based on the collection Sonetti e Canzoni di diversi antichi autori toscani (Florence 1527).
Literature resource center

Provides biographical, bibliographical, and critical content on literary figures from all time periods; draws on Gale Group's Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, and Dictionary of Literary Biography; selected full text from Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Literature Criticism from 1400 to 1800, Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism; includes full text of numerous literary journals and periodicals.

The MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles on the Modern Languages and Literatures provides citations of journal articles, books, and dissertations published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. Coverage is international and subjects include literature, language and linguistics, literary theory, dramatic arts, folklore, and film since 1926.

Description based on 12/14/1998 version.
The database contains 1,369 vernacular texts (16.4 million words) dated prior to 1375, the year of Boccaccio's death. The verse and prose works include early masters of Italian literature like Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio, as well as lesser-known and obscure texts by poets, merchants, and medieval chroniclers. The OVI database was created to aid in the compilation of an historical dictionary of the Italian language, the Tesoro della lingua italiana delle origini.
