Acceptable Use Policy

The emphasis of the Sociology collection is centered upon the U.S. cultural and social experience along with related societal problems and issues. Interdisciplinary aspects cover the fields gender studies, human development, and area studies. Support is provided for both undergraduate and graduate research programs. All formats and types of materials from printed books to electronic texts are selected.

Access to these resources is governed by license agreements which restrict use to the Notre Dame community and to individuals who use the Notre Dame Libraries' facilities. It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that he or she uses these products only for individual, noncommercial use without systematically downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information. Acceptable use forbids downloading contents of entire issues of a given journal title. Coverage:

Provides abstracts of scholarly literature on the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistoric times to the present and citations to book reviews, media reviews and dissertations. Usage info: Licensed for 6 simultaneous users.

Provides citations and abstracts, with some full text, to publications from leftist and radical media worldwide since 1982, covering topics such as the labor movement, ecology and the environment, race and ethnicity, social and cultural theory, sociology, art and aesthetics, philosophy, history, education, law, and globalization. Usage info: Licensed for 1 simultaneous user.
Polling the nations

A compilation of questions and responses from more than 12,000 national, state, local and special surveys, conducted by 700 polling organizations in the United States and 70 other countries from 1986 through the present. Each record in the database consists of one poll question and the participants' responses. Records are indexed by subject matter, publication year, general and specific location, and survey method. Other information provided includes: source name and contact information, sample size, and notes on the sample population. Usage info: Licensed for 4 simultaneous users.
Sociological abstracts

Coverage:
1963-
Abstracts and indexes international literature in sociology and related disciplines in social and behavioral sciences. Citations to journal articles, book reviews, books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers.
STAT-USA Internet

Provides access to approximately 3,000 statistical publications including economic and trade related records. Access info: Password required -- available at the BIC (Business Information Center) and Hesburgh Reference
World development indicators

Coverage:
1960- (where data are available)
The World Bank's comprehensive database on development data (social, economic, financial, natural resources, and environmental indicators) including more than 500 indicators, more than 200 countries, and 18 regional and income groups; with coverage from 1960 onward, where data are available.
