ArcGIS Online for Beginners

This workshop will teach you the foundations of mapping in ESRI’s ArcGIS Online, a browser-based GIS platform that allows users to create, visualize, and manipulate spatial data.

Learn how to use ArcGIS Online to answer research questions with spatial data or create maps to add to a class project or thesis.

This workshop is designed with a beginner GIS user in mind. After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Gather, create, manage, and display spatial data in ArcGIS Online.
  2. Use the filters tool to answer questions with spatial data.
  3. Create data visualizations using the styles tool.

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. If you do not already have access to the campus GIS network, you will receive an invitation before the workshop. Please follow the instructions in the email invitation to activate your account prior to the workshop.
  2. Please bring a laptop to the session (laptops are available for three-hour loans on a first-come, first-served basis at the 1st Floor Circulation Desk).
