This lesson will teach you to use OpenRefine to effectively clean and format data.
A foundational part of your data work is preparing your data for analysis. Some of this preparation involves data cleaning, where errors in the data are identifed and corrected or formatting is made consistent. This step must be taken with the same care and attention to reproducibility as the analysis.
OpenRefine (formerly Google Refine) is a powerful and free open source tool for working with messy data that facilitates easy cleaning and transofrmation from one format into another.
Prerequisite(s):
- This lesson assumes no prior knowledge of the skills or tools.
- Please follow these instructions to install OpenRefine and download the example data file before the session.
- This is a hands-on workshop--please bring a laptop.
