Compare, Contrast, and Zoom: An Introduction to IIIF

Monday, January 31, 2022

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

264 Hesburgh Library, Technology Commons

Learn about the International Image Interoperability Framework and how to use it in your research.

This workshop will teach you how to leverage IIIF (pronounced triple-eye-eff) in your teaching and research projects.

IIIF is a robust image framework that allows users to zoom deeply in and out of objects, getting much closer than you normally could in a museum gallery. IIIF also allows users to compare items from different institutions side-by-side, so you can bring items from different locations into one viewing platform. We will end the session by showing tools for future exploration.

Participants will learn:

  1. What IIIF is and why it matters
  2. Tips for fully leveraging a IIIF image viewer
  3. Helpful resources for continued learning

There are no prerequisites. Participants are welcome to bring their own computers to the session.
