Critical Tech Cafe is a reading club for students, faculty, and staff at Notre Dame. The book club is open to new participants each semester, who all receive free copies of our selected books.

The Fall 2025 cohort of the Critical Tech Cafe (CTC) will explore three recent releases: Reimagining AI for Environmental Justice and Creativity, an essay collection edited by Reia, Forelle, and Wang (2025), Digital Culture Shock, a new book by Katharina Reinecke (2025), and Medium Hot: Images in the Age of Heat, a recent release from artist Hito Steyerl. These texts offer fresh perspectives on the impact of technology from the individual to global scale, grappling with such topics as digital imperialism, critical AI studies, and the climate crisis.

You are welcome to attend even if you have not completed the reading (though it is encouraged), and you are not required to read every book or attend every meeting. Please get in touch with facilitators Summer Mengarelli smengare@nd.edu or Alexi Orchard aorchard@nd.edu with any additional questions.
