Knowing the parts-of-speech associated with a given text enable you to answer questions such as, what is discussed in this document? What do they do? And how do they do it? Knowing the named entities (people, places, dates, etc.) associated with a given text, enables you to answer those same questions more thoroughly.
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate and facilitate the use of a free, locally developed program called OpenRefine, to extract parts-of-speech and named entities from any plain text file.
This workshop is open to all faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students.
