Knowing the parts of speech associated with a given text enable you to answer questions such as, What is discussed in this document? What do they do? And how do they do it? Knowing the named entities (people, places, dates, etc.) associated with a given text, enables you to answer those questions more thoroughly.
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate and facilitate the use of a free, locally developed program as well as the free, open source OpenRefine tool to sort and search through results and extract parts of speech and named entities from any plain text file.
Please bring your laptop to this session.
