Session 2 Workshop Overview
This workshop further introduces participants to the Unix shell.
Objectives
- Understand why and how to use the command line
- Use shell commands to work with directories and files
- Use shell commands to find and manipulate data
- Look at all or part of a file using the command line
- Moving and copying files
If you did not take Intro to Unix Shell Session 1, please review Introduction to the Unix Shell episodes 1-2. If you’re already comfortable manipulating files and directories at the command line you may want to take Unix Shell Session 3 or Session 4.
Please bring your laptop. To complete this lesson, you will need a UNIX-like shell environment (see Setup). You will also need to download and extract the file "shell-lesson.zip" from GitHub. Once you have unzipped and extracted the file, you should end up with a folder called “shell-lesson”.
If you need help setting up your shell environment or downloading the lesson files, please contact the CDS at cds@nd.edu.
This workshop is part of a series.
You can take this workshop to build toward the completion of either the Software or Library Carpentries lesson series. This workshop is taught by a Carpentries-certified instructor.
