Overview

The goal of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition is for Ph.D. students from all departments and colleges to cultivate the ability to explain their research in a language appropriate to an audience containing both specialists and non-specialists, all within 3 minutes.

Schedule

April 2 - Single static slide deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST on April 2, 2018. Please email your slide in Powerpoint format (Set slide to standard (4:3), 10" Wide, 7.5" Height) to gprofdev@nd.edu.

April 9 - April 13 - Qualifying heats will be run within each College (Engineering, Arts & Letters, and Science).

  1. 4 Judges will determine 3 Finalists who will move on to the Final event on April 23, 2018
  2. Each Finalist will win $100 (3 Winners from each College)
  3. Schedule below:

April 9, 5pm – 7pm, Carey Auditorium – Hesburgh Library College of Arts & Letters

April 10, 5pm – 7pm, Jordan Hall Rm 101 College of Science

April 11, 5pm – 7pm, Debartolo Hall Rm 155 College of Engineering

April 23, 5pm — Final event at Jordan Auditorium, Mendoza College of Business, 9 Finalists.

Battle of the Colleges!

  1. Judges will determine 1st and 2nd round prizes for the competition
  2. Audience will vote on a People’s Choice Award – 3rd Prize
  3. Prizes: 1st Place $2,000, 2nd Place $1500, People’s Choice Award $1000
  4. Networking reception to follow awarding of prizes
