A very gentle introduction to programming logic.

In this 90-minute session, we will define concepts that are common across programming languages, including data types, loops, functions, and arguments. By the end of the session, you will have developed a mental model of the logic behind programming and practiced interpreting and documenting that logic.
The workshop is open to all but designed especially for those who are new to programming (e.g., humanists interested in digital humanities), and we will work with example code in various languages.
Workshop materials are adapted from “Programming Logic for Non-Programmers,” written by Kat Koziar and Stephanie Labou, 2025.

Summer Mengarelli is the Data Services Librarian in the Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship. She supports researchers' data needs across the university community and aims to advance data sharing and open research practices. Her interests include open science and data literacy and ethics. She received a Master of Science in Information in Digital Archives, Library Science & Preservation and a Master of Science in Geospatial Data Sciences from the University of Michigan.
