Elizabeth Nicholson appointed to three Association of College & Research Libraries groups

Earlier this academic year, Elizabeth Nicholson, department head of Education and Engagement at the Hesburgh Libraries, was appointed to three positions within the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL). She now serves on the ACRL’s Professional Development committee, Instruction Section Management and Leadership committee and the Threshold Achievement Test for Information Literacy editorial board.

“Elizabeth’s appointments to these important ACRL committees indicate her growing reputation for expertise in the field of library instruction,” said Margaret Meserve, Edward H. Arnold Dean, Hesburgh Libraries. “Her time on these committees will bring valuable new perspectives to the Hesburgh Libraries, where Elizabeth is already doing important work to review and reimagine our teaching enterprise. I’m delighted she has agreed to take on these new responsibilities and look forward to learning from her experience.”

Nicholson says that serving on the groups will allow her to help shape the future of teaching and organizational development in academic librarianship.

“It is a real privilege to have these opportunities to contribute to the profession,” Nicholson said. “When the American Library Association’s (ALA) call for professional service was announced last spring, I was looking for new opportunities to volunteer in areas that matched my areas of interest: leading teaching programs in libraries and organizational development.”

According to Nicholson, she is looking forward to sharing insights gained through her experience at the Libraries to benefit the broader profession, as well as bringing back new ideas that emerge while working in these groups.

“I’m excited to share the ideas and emerging topics that arise through the work of these groups with the Hesburgh Libraries,” she said. “Learning from colleagues across the profession will enhance the work that we do within the Education and Engagement department, as well as through the Teaching Community of Practice and the strategic planning working groups that are focused on understanding and articulating the Libraries’ teaching and learning efforts.”
