Members of the University of Notre Dame community now have access to the full website of Le Monde, a leading French newspaper covering politics, current events, arts and culture, science, sports, opinion and more.

Le Monde, established in 1944 after the liberation of Paris, serves as France’s paper of record. In addition to France, the publication provides coverage of the European Union and the rest of the world.

“This new subscription is particularly exciting because of how long the Hesburgh Libraries had sought a solution for providing this content,” Mark Robison, department head, Academic Collections and Services, said. “Although patrons have been able to read select articles from ‘Le Monde’ through third-party library databases, the coverage was inconsistent and included considerable gaps. Through this new subscription, the library can offer up-to-date access to all Le Monde content to all current students and employees at Notre Dame.”

The Hesburgh Libraries subscription covers the newspaper’s complete website as well as a 365-day rolling archive of the newspaper’s recently published articles.

“Based on requests we’ve heard over the years, we know that many Notre Dame faculty members and students read Le Monde, either for personal purposes or for their research,” Robison said. “This access will be of particular interest to our campus community members who closely follow French and European Union politics.”

Members of the Notre Dame community looking to access Le Monde, either on or off campus, should use the Okta-authenticated link listed in the library’s catalog record.
