University of Notre Dame faculty, staff and students now have full digital access to The New York Times, provided by a partnership through the Hesburgh Libraries, Student Government and the Kresge Law Library.
“Access to The New York Times is an essential resource for cultivating knowledgeable, perceptive and globally conscious scholars. In our rapidly changing world, where information is constantly evolving, The New York Times provides access to the world’s most critical issues, empowering Notre Dame students, faculty and staff to explore diverse perspectives and quench their curiosity,” said Jessica Morales, director, collection strategy and acquisitions.
Before this academic year, access to The New York Times was possible via other Hesburgh Libraries databases, but it wasn’t in a convenient digital format and was more difficult to search. In the past, undergraduate students were also able to get a digital subscription through Student Government, but that access did not include graduate students, faculty or staff. With this new partnership, any member of the University of Notre Dame campus community can create an account with their Notre Dame email.
"Access to The New York Times subscription greatly enriches the student body by providing valuable news sources, fostering informed discussions and promoting a deeper understanding of global events and perspectives,” said Daniel Jung, Notre Dame senior and student body president. “We are truly appreciative of the Libraries' efforts to grant wider access of this subscription to the student body."
The digital access includes The Times website, news app, podcasts, all multimedia, newsletters, Cooking, Wirecutter, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese versions of NYTimes.com and the TimesMachine — an archive of the newspaper back to 1851. In addition, the Notre Dame campus community also has full digital access to The Athletic, now the sports section for The New York Times.
To register, visit the Hesburgh Libraries databases and search “New York Times.” Follow the onscreen prompts to create an account using your Notre Dame email. If you have questions or difficulty accessing your subscription, please submit a Hesburgh Libraries Service Now ticket.
In addition to access to The New York Times, the Hesburgh Libraries also provides access to The Wall Street Journal for the Notre Dame campus community. Instructions to create a free account for The Wall Street Journal are available in this news story.
